Moeller’s New HMI Has A PLC Built In!

[picture of easy MFD4 unit]Versatility, easy programming, excellent connectivity and an on-board web server are among the key benefits of Moeller Electric’s new easyHMI MFD4, a 5.7-inch multifunction display unit with built-in PLC functionality and support for the easy-to-use yet powerful easySoft-CoDeSys programming system.

Combining the HMI and PLC functions in a single unit not only saves money and space, it also greatly simplifies programming, as the HMI can access PLC variables directly, thereby avoiding the cumbersome tables of variables that are often needed when separate devices are used.

Designed for use in even the most demanding of industrial applications, the MFD4 has a full-colour touch screen that is protected to IP65.

The 320 x 240 pixel resolution of the screen used the MFD4 facilitates the display of high quality graphics and text, making it easy to implement intuitive and informative user interface systems.

In addition, straightforward integration with almost any type of automation system is assured by the provision of Ethernet, CANopen and RS232 connectivity. The Ethernet interface allows FTP access to the MFD4 file system, offering a convenient on-line method of exchanging recipes, status information and similar data with the unit. In addition, the Ethernet connectivity gives access to the unit’s integral web server, allowing its screen display to be mirrored at remote locations using any standard Internet browser.

The CANopen interface is a particular useful adjunct for the PLC functionality of the MFD4, as it means that motor starters can be controlled directly via the Moeller Electric SmartWire panel wiring system. In addition, CANopen permits straightforward and cost effective connection to be made to remote I/O modules and to other automation products such as variable speed drives.

Based on Windows CE, the MFD4 multifunction display unit from Moeller Electric has 64MB of on-board SRAM, 2MB of Flash for data and program memory, 6MB of display memory and an integrated real-time clock. Standard Multimedia memory cards are also supported and can be used as a convenient way of transferring or archiving programs and data.
