Moeller’s IZM Circuit Breaker Brings More Control

Leading switchgear manufacturer, Moeller Electric, has added more intelligence and new communications functions to its IZM range of circuit breakers, in addition to extending the rated current range.

The innovative IZM series of open-type circuit breakers now has the ability to diagnose faults and signal system status, allowing rapid intervention should a fault occur and preventive maintenance to be more effective, avoiding costly downtimes.

An internal communications module enables IZM circuit breakers to be directly connected to Profibus. Fitted as standard to universal and digital IZM units is an internal system bus, which links together all the intelligent modules within the circuit breaker. This information can then be transmitted via the communications interface onto a Profibus network.

Also available are external add-on modules, which can be easily connected to the circuit breaker via the internal system bus with the minimum of wiring. Moreover, digital input modules and digital and analogue output modules are available, together with a module offering time selectivity between IZM circuit breakers with a very short time delay.

Control is provided by Moeller's Switch ES Power software, enabling the circuit breakers to be switched on or off via Profibus or an Ethernet connection, providing intranet or even Internet control. This powerful software package also includes the ability to set parameters for safety, measuring and communication functions within the breaker. Additionally, you can monitor the current, voltage, power consumption, frequency, harmonics and temperature within the system.

A new Size 1 range of circuit breakers has been added to the existing Sizes 2 and 3, extending the current range. The range now covers from 630A–6300A. By exchanging a rating plug, this range can be further expanded down to as little as 250A. The compact sizes of units enable the efficient use of existing mounting space, saving valuable equipment space in the panel. For example, the IZM rated up to 1600A will fit a 400mm wide panel section, while the unit rated up to 6300A will fit an 800mm section.

There is an option of four different IZM control units, providing optimum system protection from overload and short circuit releases to digital circuit breakers with graphical display, even the choice of building time-selective networks. All of the circuit breaker's range of accessories are identical irrespective of their current ratings. The units are protected to IP55/IP20 and comply with a wide range of safety standards.
