RapidLink Delivers Faster Commissioning for Drives

[picture of RapiLink in use]The unique Rapid Link system from Moeller now offers all of the benefits of busbar power distribution, combined with the advantages of intelligent networking and the simplicity of local motor starter technology.

These features enable fast installation times and swift modifications to be made in critical conveying and materials-handling applications where downtimes must be kept to a minimum, such as in goods distribution centres, baggage handling at airports and in the automotive industry.

The Rapid Link system utilises the proven IP65 CI enclosures to house high quality Moeller switchgear mounted locally to each motor in the mechanical system. Insulation piercing technology enables starters to be simply plugged into a power distribution system wherever required.

Automated control is offered by utilising the proven ASI communication bus, which uses the revolutionary self-healing insulation displacement technology. This enables Rapid Link to be mixed with sensors, actuators and control components on the same bus system.

The new system allows electrical drives to be installed and commissioned significantly faster than conventional methods, in some cases allowing an engineer to commission up to 50 starters per day. This represents a considerable saving in time and materials over traditional centralised control philosophies.

Commissioning is simple, as each starter offers local manual operation to enable engineering staff to operate a plant in test mode without the need to interfere with its central control system.

As enhancements to the range, variable speed drive units, power feed modules and intelligent control components may be added to the ASI system.

Rapid Link can also be used with other common fieldbus systems through an Interface Unit which acts as a Gateway. Bus systems with a higher level hierarchical form such as Profibus, Interbus, CANopen or DeviceNet can be installed with common hardware and are open for customer specific interfacing.
